Hmm I'm still going back to the old one because dep unfortunately weeded out WAY too many packages that I wanted to keep like gnome 2.16. Sad. I know a lot of outdated stuff is in there, but portage now wants to reinstall about 200 packages
Most of it is gnome and e and a few minor cool things like amarok-svn, eix, udept, etc. |

I only run stable on my router, which doesn't even have a package.keywords file
It used to be around 250 on my desktop, but I switched to ~amd64 as soon as I realized that I developed the habit of echoing <pkgname> into package.keywords every time I wanted to emerge it >.> |

Sometimes I'm running ~ppc because I need a special feature and just forget to remove it when my wanted version becomes stable and another unstable is offered.. until something breaks. Better way would be to fix the version by packages.mask. _________________ HP ZBook Power 15.6" G8 i7-11800H|HP EliteDesk 800G1 i7-4790|HP Compaq Pro 6300 i7-3770 |

I think showing your package.use would be more intresting. It would show how much do you tweak your system. There should be another thread for that but hell, here it goes:
Code: | cat /etc/portage/package.use | wc -l

Is there some script in existence that can transform a versionless package.keywords file to a versioned package.keywords? |

On a new system with gnome-2.16, nautilus 2.16, beryl/compiz, and a few other unstable packages. _________________ We need to shoot cops, and hang politicians. Concentrate the vision, concentrate the vision. |

I've 171, but most of these are left over from Gnome 2.14 upgrade. What would be excellent is tool to read in your file, and produce a file in which if the version your using now is stable that line is removed. I wanted to go back to using x86 totally, but I think it would be too much effort to manually work out which packages I need to downgrade and sometimes unstable works and stable just doesn't i.e. openoffice. |

Give my script a shot. It doesn't remove unneeded lines, but it will display all the information for you to upgrade or remove sta ble packages easily.

I run ~x86, so I don't have anything in package.keywords aside from aquamarine-9999. I have three packages in package.unmask IIRC, but I'm not in front of my computer right now.
That makes a total of 4 packages. |

134.
there are some sections defined by a blank line and comment at the top of each one.
Every package is there for a reason, and I sort through it regularly. |
