The CD-ROM is mounted right? Also is the cable inside the computer connecting the CD-ROM to your sound card connected or did it come loose? |

Do you have an audio cable from your CD-ROM to your sound card? _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

with newer manufactured computers, they usually don't include an audio cable. But with xmms, you can get the cdread plugin to read through the ide cable. works like a charm |

Why would I need a cable with gentoo when the cdrom player works fine under other linux distros?

Because the other distros probably did something complicated that was autoconfigured but Gentoo won't. Sides its better to have an audio cable going from your CD-ROM to your sound card than using the IDE channel. But do you have an audio cable running from the CD-ROM to Soundcard inside the case? |
