Hey,
I'm trying to install gentoo on my Gigabyte-GA-965P-DS3 motherboard but I'm having problems. I read that the new 2.6.18 kernel supports the JMicron SATA/IDE and Intel ICH. So I emerged the 2.6.18 gentoo-sources (after adding gentoo-sources ~x86 to package.keywords) but the JMicron and Intel ICH are nowhere to be found. Do I have to apply a patch? If so, which one and how? Thanks. |

I have ICH5, and to use all stuff on my motherboard first time when i kompile kernel myself i opend my PC and wrote down all chips i could read - it provided me with lot of usefull info - sensors, audio codek, lan card type ...
I recoment to you to look "under hood" and then go thru all options in kernel and read all comments. I think it will help.
Or you can use genkernel. (i refere 1st option)

Same question: Where is the JMicron support we were promised in 2.6.18?
I suggest trying the newest mm-sources (2.6.18-mm3 or so). There you'll find JMicron support, but I ran into a host of other problems related to the -mm sources. Maybe you'll be luckier. |

ICH8. Nevermind about it, I think I saw it there.
JMicron is a SATA/IDE controller. Can't seem to find it in gentoo-sources. I ran into problems getting it to work with vanilla, mm, and no. Haven't tried genkernel. |
