After I had upgraded to modular X when I tried to update world I kept getting the message that x11-libs/qt required nvidia-glx as a dependancy. Since nvidia-glx is depreciated and no longer in the tree, how do I work around this? I also noticed that there are two versions of qt installed - 3.3.6-r1 and opensource 4.1.4. Is this supposed to be correct? I don't know how long this has been the case because I never had run across this before.
Also when trying to do a world update I get the message that kde-base/kicker-applets dependancies cannot be resolved. Might this be because I had installed and still run the folding@home kicker applet from KDE-apps? |

First, Code: | emerge --unmerge nvidia-kernel nvidia-glx | and then Code: | emerge nvidia-drivers | This should take care of that dependency.
Second, Qt 3 and Qt 4 are two different codebases, and yes, it's perfectly ok to have both Qt 3.x and Qt 4.x installed.
Third, I'm not sure if this is an issue here, but you should be emerging kde-meta, not kde. (kde-meta is split ebuilds for every package, which is the defacto standard in Gentoo now.)
If you're gettinng blockages, and look at what's blocking what (at the top of the list), post them here if you're unsure of what to do with it. _________________ "If ignorance is bliss, why aren't more people happy?" --Thomas Jefferson

Thanks freelight, that worked. I didn't realize that even though the packages were removed from portage that they still had to be unmerged. Also, I do have meta-KDE installed and that kicker applet message has now disappeared. |
