hey folks, last night i did an emerge world, and it had an error about half way through:
Code:

!!! Cannot write to '/mnt/floppy'.
!!! Please check permissions and directories for broken symlinks.
!!! You may start the merge process again by using ebuild:
!!! ebuild /usr/portage/sys-apps/baselayout/baselayout-1.8.5.9.ebuild merge
!!! And finish by running this: env-update

so i tried what it said, and here's what i get:
Code:

root@why backupfiles # ebuild /usr/portage/sys-apps/baselayout/baselayout-1.8.5.9.ebuild merge
/usr/bin/python2.2: /lib/libpthread.so.0: version `GLIBC_2.3.2' not found (required by /usr/bin/python2.2)

that didn't do much, so i try:
Code:

root@why backupfiles # env-update
/usr/bin/python2.2: /lib/libpthread.so.0: version `GLIBC_2.3.2' not found (required by /usr/bin/python2.2)

also not much help. dang.

since then, i've tried to emerge different programs, but since portage uses python, and python uses gcc, portage won't run at all, i'm assuming because i borked the gcc stuff (i think that's the problem, but i'm really not too sure).

all that i've tried so far is rebooting using the livecd, mounting my filesystem and chrooting, but that doesn't do anything for the problem, it still has the same error message.

i'm curious to find out if there's a way to fix this that'd take up less time than a full reinstall, or if my system is messed up too much.

i can boot in and run gnome easily enough, but there's no emerge, and without that, i'm pretty much stuck with what i got (which isn't really that bad, but it would be nice to have emerge... sorta the whole point of gentoo).

that about sums up my problem, if there's any files i could post or ideas from anyone then feel free to ask/tell.
