Hi.
I've got a GA-8I045P. It's a nice linux-friendly mainboard with a i945P chipset. As southbridge it has an ICH7R.
When I plug in a new harddisk now nothing happens. The ICH7R works in AHCI mode.
Do you have any ideas? I'm running a 2.6.17-gentoo-r8 kernel under amd64 and use the libata driver of course.

I thought only certain boards allowed hotplugging _________________ Remember, even at a Mensa convention someone is the dumbest person in the room! |

Quote: | Adaptors are available to convert a 4-pin Molex connector to SATA power connector. However, because the 4-pin Molex connectors do not provide 3.3 V power, these adapters provide only 5 V and 12 V power and leave the 3.3 V lines disconnected. This precludes the use of such adapters with drives that require 3.3 V power. Understanding this, drive manufacturers have largely left the 3.3 V power lines unused. However, without 3.3V power, the SATA device will not be able to implement hotplugging as mentioned in the previous paragraph. |

| Thank you. But I also tried to connect it directly to my power supply with an sata power connector. |

Well your gonna have to give us some more information than that then, a dmesg listing would be good, and have you compiled the right module into your kernel?
Also just to clarify when you refer to hotplugging you do mean plugging and unplugging the harddrive whilst the system is powered up? _________________ Remember, even at a Mensa convention someone is the dumbest person in the room! |

At least I didn't found anything. The controller works perfectly. I run 2 sata discs already with it. The ahci libata driver is compiled in the kernel.
The new harddisk is a WD5000YS, a 500 harddisk from Western Digital.
