I got the same errors when emerging nvidia-legacy-drivers (also with Kernel 2.6.19). The workaround proposed by richfish worked for me. Thanks a lot

Same problem with "pcmcia-cs". Workaround works here, too.

I had same problem with regular nvidia-drivers. I fixed by manually installing them from distfiles.
I wish that I had bothered to check the bugtraq, but, oh well. _________________ KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!! |

I couldn't get a hold of our kernel maintainer dsd to confirm this is like every other case of sandbox issues, but i'll just repeat our mantra about the sandbox as it's never wrong*.
It goes somehow like this:
"DO NOT TURN OFF THE BLOODY SANDBOX UNLESS A DEVELOPER REALLY TELLS YOU TO!"
Problems with the sandbox are bugs which should be reported to bugs.gentoo.org (unless there already is a bug report), then they will be fixed and everything will be fine - including your system because you don't get a chance to bollocks it up by turning off the sandbox and portage going wild.
As for today, we have a couple of sandbox problems with .19, and a fixed bug about lirc. If you still encounter problems, emerge sync and try the latest versions of Gentoo sources and the ebuild in question - if it still fails please help solving the issue by contributing useful bug reports.
* Ok, there is that one special case where you have to turn off the sandbox to merge a working sandbox again. _________________ Dinosaur week! (Ok, this thread is so last week) |

Amne,
Sorry, I didn't mean to step on anybody's toes with my temporary workaround. Certainly sandbox violations are not generally minor things that should just be ignored. But in this case, with these temporary files, it should be clear that the violations don't represent actual problems.
OTOH it looks like this will be necessary for users of vanilla-sources at least until .20 comes out, as Gentoo doesn't apply *any* patches there.

On Dec 2nd when I was looking at this it wasn't at all clear whether it was a problem with lirc specifically. And the bug itself had been open for 2 months. ![Sad :-(](images/smiles/icon_sad.gif) |

The problem is that usually people pick up USE="-sandbox" in a thread where it probably is not a problem and start to give the same advice with other, more severe problems because they don't actually know what happens, hence the mantra. ![Wink ;)](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ Dinosaur week!
