there are two nforce gigabit ethernet ports on this motherboard.

i never used to have problems with nforce ethernet before, until now... it seems like nothing is wrong, there are no errors a t all, everything goes as expected except i can't get on any networks! i can't even ping.

so i try 3 different kernel version, and all do not work, (2.6.17-r8, 2.6.18-r4, 2.6.19)

here are some details... (on 2.6.17-r8)
dmesg | grep eth
Code:
forcedeth.c: Reverse Engineered nForce ethernet driver. Version 0.54.
forcedeth: using HIGHDMA
eth0: forcedeth.c subsystem: 010de:c55e boutd to 0000:00:11.0
forcedeth: using HIGHDMA
eth1: forcedeth.c subsystem: 010de:c55e boutd to 0000:00:11.0
eth0: no link during intialization.

also, if i switch my cat5 cable from one ethernet port to the other, i lose control of my usb keyboard, and i have to hard reboot...

any suggestions?

ok i finally got this to work, after trying my fourth kernel...

2.6.16-gentoo-r13, because it has a really old version of the forcedeth driver, 0.49

works perfectly... i don't know whats wrong with the newer 0.54 driver though.

You may want to report that as a bug in the newest version of the forcedeth driver.

On a side note, the desktop in your sig looks sweet.

i found out how to use the newer version of forcedeth.... i have to append irqpoll to my kernel boot line.

but since doing this, i get crashes.. many many crashes... every 5 minute crashes.

I had the same problem with my ASUS P775 680i SLI motherboard tonight. The suggested fix was:

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=79917
[you have to register]

which worked for me without adverse consequences.

I'm running 2.6.18-r4

The support from Nvidia claims it's a BIOS issue. Ironically, the AM64 LiveCD I used was able to get the NICs working and do a net install. It's just the OS it installed, by default, couldn't recognize the NICs.
