|
|
What should I do to make sure that Gentoo has access to my machine's usb ports when Gentoo is a guest OS on a Windows VMWare host? I just emerged gphoto2, which works on another machine that is native Gentoo, and doesn't work on my VMWare guest Gentoo. Since there were no problems with emerge, I'm assuming there was a problem accessing the usb ports. USB support is compiled into the kernel. |

Does VMWare claim the USB device for its guest? If so, the device is expected to appear highlighted in the VMWare device bar (same way as a CD-ROM device, e. g.). If it is not highlighted, click the device label in the bar to connect VMWare to it. Possibly you will have to release the device in the host OS first.
After this, what are dmesg, lspci and lsusb telling you about USB devices inside the Gentoo guest? _________________ 42 |

VMWare doesn't seem to automatically claim the device. But in the settings for the virtual machine, I could add my 2-port USB controller, and it then shows up in the VM->Removable Devices menu. gphoto2, however, still can't find the device.
dmesg says about usb:

It doesn't show up in the device bar, though. |
