|
|
Very dissapointed, I have gone through the Stage 3 install process with no problems and then when after building my kernel and telling GRUB where it's at, I reboot and get
APIC error on CPU0: 04(04)
continually flickering on my screen. Not helpful. I have had a fair bit of kernel compiling experience but this is a new system so there might be something I'm missing.
Using 1.2 stage 3 tarballs
MSI K7 Dual AMD motherboard
1 x AMD 1800 XP CPU
Geforce 4 Ti4400
Dual booting WinXP and Gentoo with gentoo setup on XFS and the boot partition using Ext3
I have low latency compiled into my kernel, AMD K7 optimisations, SMP (although it seems to say there is no prob running SMP option on single CPU rigs), Pre Emptive options and no power saving device options.
Any help really appreciated |

did you enable smp and ioapic?
and did you try it out with just a vanilla 2.4.18 kernel? |

I'm having this exact problem on my new system after installing Gentoo. As soon as LILO starts trying to load the kernel, APIC error on CPU0: 04(04) just scrolls REALLY fast down the screen and doesn't stop or repond to keyboard input. Was this problem ever soved?
I searched through here for APIC errors, but most responses just say to turn off APIC in the kernel. I have a SMP system, though (Athlon MP), and it's automatically enabled when you choose SMP, so I don't think that's really an option for me. Thanks, |
