|
|
Code: | lspci | grep net
0000:00:0a.0 Ethernet controller: Accton Technology Corporation SMC2-1211TX (rev 10)
|
I have dhclient.
Code: | emerge net-misc/dhcp |
I have been doing a stage 3 install from the minimal CD. The system boots, but without networking I am unable to finish. At boot time, the ethernet fails.
I am sure I have done this.
Code: | rc-update add net.eth0 default |
I haven't changed /etc/conf.d/net because I want to use dhcp.
SOLUTION
I found a module. I think it was Device Drivers --> 10/100 NICs --> Realtek. Then modprobe 8139too. Then I added that to the autoload file. Gentoo community is excellent.

Try emerging dhcpcd while you are booted from the cd and in the chroot environment. It used to be the recommended dhcp client, but I haven't checked the install guide lately. _________________

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Networking & Security.

Code: | emerge --unmerge net-misc/dhcp
emerge dhcpcd |
At boot time I get a message like "net.eth0 does not exist". I included TCP/IP networking in my kernel as well as Packet Socket.
Code: | lspci | grep 56
0000:00:0c.1 Communication controller: Rockwell International Riptide HCF 56k PCI Modem
|
Does 802.11 mean wireless? I left it out because I don't have any wireless hardware. Could there be a conflict between my Riptide card and ethernet controller? |

you can do a rc-update /show to see if you have net.eth0 is in the system. Are you sure you have the correct driver in the kernel for your NIC compiled in the kernel? You can boot off the lived cd and do a lsmod to see what modules were loaded to pick the correct driver in your kernel. |

Is there a simple way to compile new modules without building a whole new bzImage? Anybody who has responded is my friend.
Thanks, Noice.
