|
|
I want to eliminate a switch in my home network, so want to use a eth2 for my Access Point (AP).
The situation would be as follows:
Eth0 = WAN
Eth1 = LAN
Eth2 = WiFi
The question is, how do I set it up?
I have searched here and with google on a how to, but all I see is why I should switch to a Apple MAC or where to buy a switch...
I think I just need the iptables config lines to enable the WAN to send to both LAN and WiFi.
If someone has a link to a How To, I would love to read it. _________________ Mac Pro single quad 2.8GHz, 6GB RAM, 8800GT. MacBook. Plus way too many SUN/Cobatl/SGI and a lonely Alpha. |

Ok, I have used that guide to build my current router/firewall. Didn't know, or forget since it's been a while, that it mentions multiple NIC's used as a switch.
I will check it out again.

Maybe it's too early here, but it wasn't too clear to me.
Think I need to read it through when I am more awake some day.
Thank though. _________________ Mac Pro single quad 2.8GHz, 6GB RAM, 8800GT. MacBook. Plus way too many SUN/Cobatl/SGI and a lonely Alpha. |

The Gentoo Home Router guide shows what I need.
Plus after reading it a bit more, I know how to set up things properly now.
Just need to keep in mind to use cross-over cables _________________ Mac Pro single quad 2.8GHz, 6GB RAM, 8800GT. MacBook. Plus way too many SUN/Cobatl/SGI and a lonely Alpha. |

A switch is a multiport bridge.... so you could consider bridging your two LAN ifaces...
Just a thought. _________________ Paul

I have thought about bridging them.
But I think with just iptables I can make it work easily so I can understand what my machine is doing.
It's only for home, so it has to be simple. _________________ Mac Pro single quad 2.8GHz, 6GB RAM, 8800GT. MacBook. Plus way too many SUN/Cobatl/SGI and a lonely Alpha. |
