Please read the first 1-3 pages of this thread. This is a known issue with automake-1.10. |

I think one thread for E17 is not sufficient.
and since e17 is removed from the official portage, I fear the admins would be soon eager to kick us into the "Unsupported Software" section.
I find chasing long threads extremely time consuming, and often ineffective in finding the right solution. |

I agree, especially with how poor the forum search tool is. I frequently find posts that should have shown up given a certain set of keywords, but are ignored completely by the search
Perhaps a #gentoo-enlightenment on freenode? I´d hate to saturate #e with all of the traffic of this thread. |

Right. The threads are too long and mix many different information. The best would be to update eg. http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_e17 and discuss only non-standart problems. _________________ nBVCXz

I think e17 is evolving more rapidly than what the wiki pages are capable of....
I was thinking of why not having multiple threads? just like other DEs and WMs.
We can do this even now.. but I wish the gentoo forums had an "Other Desktop Environments" section to accommodate these threads.... afterall, e17's status is certainly different to that of the other released DEs and WMs.
Not that I use XGL, but i've noticed XGL threads are also similar to e17 threads.
I think a new "Other Desktop Environments" section can accommodate these threads,
relating to popular but still unsupported & unreleased desktop environment softwares. |

While we're in this thread (and subforum): are any of you experimenting high (I mean 60-90%) CPU usage when moving windows on e17? I didn't noticed this before, but from some weeks ago (I update e17 related stuff weekly) I'm suffering it. My system is running ~x86 with nv drivers (changing to nvidia ß binary drivers and recompiling stuff didn't help).
Thanks in advance.
P.S.: +1 for the #gentoo-enlightenment |

Now that you mention it, yes. Snow module enabled, two weather-modules, xterm and firefox. Moving firefox around (approx 1/3 of screen size), had Cpu going up to 80%. Enlightenment taking up a bit over 30%, firefox and X about 25% each. |

Just use #get-e
It's not so filled as #e and just a few devs hang around there that don't mind asking gentoo'ish questions _________________ http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki - pro-audio software overlay

I've been trying to update my build of e17 all morning, and am completely stumped. It seems the current support in evas/ecore for directfb is broken (according to the googling I've done this morning), so I've set -directfb (and -fbcon in case) as USE flags for both packages, and rebuilt them successfully. However, when I now try and build e itself, the emerge fails at the linker stage with libtool whining that it can't find libecore_directfb. I can't for the life of me work out why it's trying to use it when all the package deps (all the ones I've found anyway, i.e. ecore and evas) have no been built without support for it.
What seems even more curious is I've hunted through the line being passed to libtool, and I can't even find a "-llibecore_directfb" in there - so I'm not even sure where libtool is picking up the info from that leads it to believe it requires the thing!
Here's the dump from the relevant bit of the build log :
Code: |
wallpaper_import.o e_int_config_wallpaper_gradient.o e_color_dialog.o e_fdo_menu_to_order.o e_sys.o e_int_config_transitions.o e_obj_dialog.o e_fwin.o e_widget_aspect.o e_widget_desk_preview.o e_filereg.o e_int_config_borders.o e_int_config_desk.o e_fm_prop.o -lpam

I have been trying to emerge emphasis as there is a new ebuild for it. However, I had no luck with it . It keeps failing here:

Of course, libmpd is installed
Code: | romina godlike # equery list libmpd
[ Searching for package 'libmpd' in all categories among: ]
* installed packages
[I--] [ ] media-libs/libmpd-0.01 (0.01) |
Edit: a few weeks ago I accidentally deleted my whole /usr/lib directory. I know, I deserved the pain that came afterwards, but I managed to (almost) completely rebuild it by reemerging (sometimes unmerging and reemerging) applications. When I first got this error the first thing I did was unmerge libmpd and reemerge it, but the results were the same.
Has anybody been able to emerge emphasis? Any ideas regarding how to do it?
Thanks in advance! _________________ GERÓNIMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! |

I last emerged it 31/12/2006, and just successfully reemerged it about 5 minutes ago. However, I´ve never been able to get it to actually work, and now it won´t even start :/ |

Works like a charm for me, I use it as my everyday music player ... Last emerge two or three days ago
Just too bad that the "Playlists" tab requires libmpd >= 0.12.4 which appears not to be in the portage tree |

Is anyone else experiencing major headaches with amarok?
I really love this app and would hate to miss it, but it just keeps Krashing after a couple of songs almost every time. The weird thing is that this doesn't happen under Gnome. I have only tried under e17 and Gnome so far. I'm just waiting for it to take my collection into a grave of eternal bits.
Any ideas? _________________ I'm a membar of Mesnar and me scull contains wakky secrets! |

check and make sure you have the systray icon turned off unless you are using a third party systray app, the systray icon for amarok has been known to be problematic with dr17 |

Well i tend to start gnome-panel for that very same problem with Skype. Is that sufficient or not? _________________ I'm a membar of Mesnar and me scull contains wakky secrets! |

That's total overkill. I use amarok, and trayer. No problems. _________________ http://proaudio.tuxfamily.org/wiki - pro-audio software overlay

Well I misworded my last post. That's not hte only reason i use gnome-panel.
Does your post imply that you don't have any issues?
I was first guessing on some kind of the usual song changing issues with replaygain or xine or whatnot but the fact that it works great under gnome and beryl is just so strange. What's different under e17 that makes it crash so consistently? _________________ I'm a membar of Mesnar and me scull contains wakky secrets! |
