I'm at a complete loss. I have a Compaq Proliant 6000 server running
Gentoo. (It was running Win2k before I got my hands on it.) It has
two Compaq 64-bit/66mhz Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters connecting
two Compaq RA-4000 external raid arrays via FCAL.
The problem is that I can't seem to get the kernel to recognize the
Fibre Channel cards. I'm running 2.4.19-gentoo-r9. I've tried building
the cpqfc into the kernel - didn't work. I build it as a module - didn't work
and said 'no such device'. I grabbed the module sources developed by
Compaq, hosted at Sourceforge - compiled and installed them - same
deal (in fact, I think it's the exact same driver).
The cards worked under Win2K. They work under the Compaq Smart
Start cd. I just can't get the kernel to see them.
Any ideas?

I think Compaq´s FibreChannel cards are QLA2100 based or compatible, and Gentoo has integrated support for this cards.
I have a FC array too, had it working fine under W2K, couldn´t make it work under Gentoo. I used the QLA2200 driver (even tough my card is an ATTO, but they told me to do this), and had a friend compile the modules to get the array working, because support for this card is not integrated into Gentoo YET.
Cheers,

There is a driver that needs help in 2.6 for the Compaq FC card (HP Tachyon chip). I solved this problem by updating the firmware in the array using an old windows pc with the 32bit Compaq card in it, and then using an Emulex card in my Gentoo box. The only problem is that I can't configure the array with the Emulex card. The Compaq Array Configuration Utility *Requires* the Compaq FC card to be in the system. Gods I'd love to see an Open Source version of the ACU, one that *Doesn't* require a particular FC card. By the way, I can certainly see the RAID controller as a FC device with the Emulex card. It even shows up as a /dev/sg device.
