All,

I'm trying to get LVM to work on one of my servers here... This is the first time I've tinkered with LVM. :?

Anyways, I followed the directions found here:

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/lvm2.xml

Everything works fine in the installation, but when the system is booting up, I get the following error:

Code:
Failed to open the device '/dev/lvmSys/usr': No such file or directory

(this error appears multiple times -- once for each instance of an LVM partition in my fstab)

Now, the only difference that I can see between the HowTo's directions and my installation is that I built in the "Device mapper support" directly into the kernel (instead of using a module).

Any thoughts on why this may be happening?

Thanks!

Are your volumes functional after boot? Does a vgscan find them?

I am sorry, I forgot to update this thread as solved.

Turns out I was missing something from the kernel configuration.

Look carefully and make sure all the LVM stuff is set up in the kernel as the docs say it should.

Problems can also happen if you forget to emerge lvm2 before rebooting.

What was missing from the kernel configuration, Aurora?
