Is there a meta ebuild in the gnome experimental?

I have a problem, Gnome's application (Nautilus, panel, etc) can not remember its setting when login again.

For example, I use gconf-editor to unselect show volumns on desktop option of nautilus, or I put a new application launch icon
on panel, when I log off and login again, all the settings are gone?

What am I wrong? How to fix this stupid problem?

With upgrading gconf to 2.18.0.1, the problem solved

See this bug. Unfortunately, no solution yet.

I added the gentoo-experimental overlay and I'm having a real problem getting things to emerge.

When I emerge pygtkglext, I get the following:
Code:

checking for GTK+ - version >= 2.0.0... no
*** Could not run GTK+ test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the
*** exact error that occured. This usually means GTK+ is incorrectly installed.

  environment, line 3230:   Called src_compile
  ebuild.sh, line 642:   Called econf
  ebuild.sh, line 577:   Called die

So, I try to emerge gtk+-2.10.11 again, and I get the following:
Code:

checking Pango flags... configure: error:
*** Pango not found. Pango built with Cairo support is required
*** to build GTK+. See http://www.pango.org for Pango information.

!!! Please attach the following file when filing a report to bugs.gentoo.org:

  ebuild.sh, line 577:   Called die

So, I try to emerge pango-1.16.1 again, and it emerges fine, but I still get the same error trying to emerge gtk+ again.

Anybody have any ideas what I should do?

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I do have cairo in my use flags. I also just tried to emerge gconf and got the same error about not being able to find gtk+ 2.0 or greater.

Here's a copy of my emerge --info.

I verified that I do have .config under my kernel and its the right kernel source.

Whats wrong??

Edit: Open Bug 171618
Refresh the overlay hal is masked now

Thanks

Hmm strange...have you tried a revdep-rebuild? Maybe some dependency of gtk+ is broken?

hmm. I just ran revdep-rebuild the other day and everything was fine. I just ran it again, and there seem to be problems with libpango and libdirect. Hopefully after I get this taken care of everything else will build ok.

Thanks for the help.

Do we have to use the overlay in order to get gnome 2.18?

Or will it hit portage within some days?

You need to add the overlay.

Code:

layman -f && layman -a gnome-experimental
emerge -uD world

Has anyone noticed that the transparency in gnome terminal version 2.18.0 is broken?

Any ideas how to remedy this?

I think that there may be a patch somewhere, but I haven't found it yet, and help with this would be appreciated.

BTW, I'm using it with beryl 0.2.1

Actually, the real problem is with x11-libs/vte version 0.16.0 which is required for gnome-terminal 2.18.0!

Apparently there is a patch for it, and the patch has been applied to a ubuntu package (see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vte/+bug/91985) but I can not find the patch.

Any one else have any luck?

@ryker: try the following
Code:
 emerge cairo pango gtk+ vte && revdep-rebuild

that should get you past the gtk issue and then allow you to rebuild the libdirect libraries (in particular libdirectfusion IIRC)

@mtascii: take another look at your emerge -pUvND output - 5th line up from the bottom...looks like control-center-2.18.0 to me...

just emerge -C control-center first to get rid of the blocker

Thank you to everyone for your help. I was able to get around the problem by doing the following
Code:

emerge emul-linux-x86-gtklibs cairo pango gtk+ vte && revdep-rebuild

yep: looked in http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/v/vte/vte_0.16.0-0ubuntu4.diff.gz to get the fix for transparency.

@UB|K: could you provide steps to implement this patch

I tried c&p > mv to x11-libs/vte/files/fix-transp.patch > ebuild vte-0.16.0.ebuild digest > emerge vte

I think I've forgotten the correct way to apply patches to ebuilds...

Anybody see a problem with zenity? Everything else compiled fine for me.

I think I've forgotten the correct way to apply patches to ebuilds...

before doing the 'ebuild ... digest' stuff just edit the ebuild and add:
Code:
        epatch ${FILESDIR}/the_patch.patch

I modified/fixed the patch above, applied it, compiled it, and it is working!

Here is the updated working version ::

I hope that this helps anyone with a similar problem ... aka gnome-terminal 2.18 with no transparency!

Thanks for your help UB|K

You need to add the overlay.

Code:

layman -f && layman -a gnome-experimental
emerge -uD world

Yes I know but my question was: is it NEEDED? Or will it hit portage one of these days.

Anyways yesterday an update f*cked up my whole gnome and now I'm on fluxbox emerging 2.18... Hope it works...
Cross your fingers for me please :)

EDIT: K everything emerged fine but I still got the same trouble...

Now I log in to gnome like this: fluxbox -> gnome
And my gnome looks heavily damaged - only a desktop with icons...

Time to make a seperate thread
