Hello,

I recently decided to build my own system and run gentoo on it. Here are the specifications:

amd athlon xp barton 2500 333 fsb
512mb pc3200 ddr400 corsair ram
gainward geforce4 ti4800se
120gb western digital hard drive
52x cendyne cdrw

I bought the asus a7v8x but had trouble with it. It worked during the first boot, but when I tried to boot it up again the agp warning light came on (saying that my agp card isn't 1.5v) and stopped it from booting.

I bought all my hardware from newegg.com and I'm going to rma the asus motherboard. The question is, which motherboard should I replace it with?

I am currently looking at these two:

Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro
and
Chaintech 7NJS-ZENITH

If anyone has one of these motherboard working with gentoo and/or with similar hardware please let me know.

I guess I should mention that this is my first time setting up gentoo and I would like the least amount of trouble as possible, so if anyone wants to suggest another motherboard they are welcome to do so.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Well... I went ahead and bought the Chaintech 7NJS Zenith (based on a recommendation from a friend).

I connected all my hardware to it and installed gentoo. Now I have a fully functional linux desktop :) !

Everything has been working fine with gentoo, the only thing I had trouble with was the onboard lan, but it was easy to get up and running:

Code:

$ emerge nforce-net
$ insmod nvnet

I'd recommend this motherboard to anyone with a similar setup to mine. The bundle it comes with is unbelievable, they even threw in a leather keychain with a golden "Z" on it :D.
