when running kbuildsycoca i get numerous mimetype errors, and my ktorrent application trashes, numerous other problems

Basically, just ignore the mimetype stuff. All sorts of KDE stuff spews those errors all the time. There's likely a ton of them in ~/.xsession-errors. As to the other, there really isn't much in the backtrace to go on, since it has no symbols to trace after a few steps.

This is normal, its rebuilding its index/database.
As far as the ktorrent, never liked it, nor used it  .. but lets see if we can debug it. can you paste more of the backtrace ?

Okay, looks like this is fairly common with 2.1.2. There's a bunch of posts about it on the Ktorrent help forum:

The backtraces are similar there, as well. Unfortunately, I didn't see any solutions, but I only looked at a couple posts. Most seem to be about older versions.
A somewhat similar bug is on the KDE bugzilla:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=143475
The solution there is to use the latest svn source, which is kind of a pain in the ass.

Just thought of something. Did you upgrade from an older version? If so, try deleting the .kde/share/apps/ktorrent/ directory and the .kde/share/config/ktorrentrc file. You'll have to reconfig everything, but it might clear up the crash problems.

| this fixes the problem, but its still hardlocking horribly, if i look at the columns funny or cause too much of a load from the application it hardlocks my entire system. strange, but this seems to happen only when gaim is running, my gaim version is Gaim 2.0.0beta6 and ktorrent Qt: 3.3.6 KDE: 3.5.5 KTorrent: 2.1.2, is/has anyone else experienced these issues? |

Got the same ktorrent problem as well today after months of stable use. Seems to be caused perhaps by upgrading QT or kdelibs? Rebuilding ktorrent hasn't helped so far. Running ~amd64 |
