Hi,
I have a Thinkpad X31 with a PentiumM 1,5GHz and a Radeon M6 LY (a.k.a.Radeon 7000). I know this is not the fastest hardware on earth but I think 290fps with glxgears is a bit too slow for this system. The problem is that glxinfo says that direct rendering works.

Any ideas? Because of this fact and that eselect-opengl terminated with message "killed" each time, I just did a completly new install of gentoo but the performance problem is identical.
Because fglrx do not support this graphics adapter I use the radeon kernel module (gentoo-sources 2.6.20-r6).

Glxgears is worthless as a benchmark tool and the number it outputs doesn't correlate to real 3D performance. You should try some realworld opengl application, e.g. neverball or tomatoes...

neverball was a good hint. I saw that its availably for windows, too. So I can compare the results under this OS.
I will post the results then.

I should buy a faster Notebook i think. Same slow performance under windows and linux. But the good news everything is ok under gentoo. :)
