Hello !
I'm having a hard time configuring my network cards. My MB is a DFI Lanparty nforce4 SLI. It has 2 ethernet adapters nforce and marvell.
I have configured the kernel (2.6.21) with built-in (and as modules as well) driver forcedeth and skge.
When i enable both drivers, only marvell will work. When i only enable one of them, i can get each one of them to work.
Right now, my kernel have the two drivers built-in:

You can try to build the drivers as modules.
What happens if you remove one network card with this setup? Does the other work or doesn't?
Try to play with your pci slots. You never know where it's good for:) |

both ethernet adapters are onboard...
i have tried to compile them as modules too, but it makes no difference to when they are built-in...
The strage thing is that if i only add driver for one of the cards, they work. The problem only appears when i have both drivers... Also, when i have the two drivers, i get a small freeze during boot when udev starts... |

Which devices do you have in "ifconfig -a" ? Sometimes udev seems to do weird things with interface names. I'm pretty sure the interface is there (it shows up in your dmesg, and while it might not work properly, you should not have a "No such device" error), it probably just doesn't have the name you expect. |

Renaming the script to the right device name will fix this
Code: | mv /etc/init.d/net.eth1 /etc/init.d/eth1_rename_ren |
I found the full device name on google, hopefully its right as it is found by running "ip link show", which I don't have on this gentoo install.
Good luck,

Just to leave a answer to anyone with the same problem:
It all came down to udev. I have found the solution on it's config files.. I played with /etc/udev/rules.d/ and made it work.
After a while, portage upgraded my udev and i used -5 option for the config on etc-update.
Now everything works fine! |
