:(
I think I got a virus or something on windows. After a reboot grub wasnt able to load. No boot disks were founnd.
So I loaded up the 2006.1 Gentoo install disk and want to shroot into mz gentoo install to reinstall grub.
But I cannot find my hd with its partitions. FFS

I can mount hdb which is the cd rom. that works. I find the instakll docs and stuff there but mz harddisk and its partitions are nowhere. Hda has a red cross thingy as symbol.

Help me please, I kinda need my pc and data now.

check if the bios sees the drive. no matter the outcome, try swapping hdd location to another controller.

Okay.
I have 2 HDs. If I switch hd1 with hd2 and dont go to the bios and save&exit the HD wont show up.
How using HD2, save&exit BIOS, and using Bootdisk; I can mount some of the partitions and the data shows up. I cant remember the exact partitioning of that HD as it was mostly games/windows and crap.
Swapping to HD1 (this is my gentoo install with the important data and stuff), save&exit BIOS and nothing shows up.
I cant belive that disk got scrapped.
This is frustrating FFS.
I also tried 2004.1 and 2006 install disk.

Try using testdisk if the problem are lost partitions it should help you. You can find testdisk on SystemRescueCD - based on Gentoo. Maybe it will help you a little, if not at least you will have a diagnostic tool for future.
