|
|
I keep getting the error message on my console:
Code: | sendmail: 550 rejected: there is no valid sender in any header line (envelope sender is <root@ithought.org>) |
I am using the phpbb2 program to run a forum and this happens when a user tries to register or when I send a mass email from the andministrative section. Even though the last email that should have been sent was late last night (10 hours ago) The message still comes up on my console every now an then.
All I have for sendmail is the ssmtpd package that comes with the default install and I have only made a few config changes:
Code: | /etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf (changes)
mailhub=smtp.earthlink.net
rewriteDomain=ithought.org
|
Some of the emails do go though however, and show up as coming from the email address of the forum administrator.
Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks. |

I looked at some Google links and the best I can guess is the MTA's that reject your email are configured to drop any emails addressed from <root@foo.com>. What if you change the user you send as? Like <phpbb@ithought.org>. |

I changed it to my earthlink address since I am using their SMTP server, though nowhere that I can find is the from address set up to be root. It seems to send all of the emails fine but just dump that error message over an over to the console. Also, A dead.letter file accumulates in root's home folder that is full of nothing but empty space. It keeps growing bigger and bigger. We will see what happens tomorrow since these messages are pretty spaced apart but thanks for your help... |

hmm. narrowed it down a little bit. The problem occurs every hour right after cron runs its hourly thing (it may happen after the daily/monthly ones but it is hard to tell at this point).
I am using metalog and vcron and cannot find an email address or anything like it in a config file anywhere. Anyone know how to set that up? |
