|
|
Recently I updated kdelibs,
Code: | gentoo daniel1988 # genlop --list --date 4 days ago
* kde-base/kdelibs
Wed Jun 6 06:22:37 2007 >>> kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.5-r10
Wed Jun 6 14:17:24 2007 >>> media-libs/libexif-0.6.15
Wed Jun 6 15:55:45 2007 >>> media-gfx/gimp-2.2.14
Thu Jun 7 16:44:53 2007 >>> media-sound/amarok-1.4.5-r1
Fri Jun 8 13:26:49 2007 >>> sys-apps/eject-2.1.5-r1
Fri Jun 8 14:02:36 2007 >>> kde-base/kdialog-3.5.5
Fri Jun 8 14:37:26 2007 >>> kde-base/kdebase-kioslaves-3.5.5-r1
Fri Jun 8 17:16:24 2007 >>> media-libs/xine-lib-1.1.4-r2
Fri Jun 8 17:31:19 2007 >>> media-libs/gstreamer-0.10.11
Fri Jun 8 18:38:30 2007 >>> media-sound/amarok-1.4.5-r1
Fri Jun 8 20:22:17 2007 >>> media-libs/xine-lib-1.1.4-r2
Fri Jun 8 20:33:19 2007 >>> media-libs/gstreamer-0.10.11
Fri Jun 8 21:37:22 2007 >>> media-sound/amarok-1.4.5-r1 |
and after that amarok stopped to work > link
tried some voodoo suggested here & on google (like: emerge xine-lib gstreamer amarok, $kbuildsycoca, su .... cd /var/tmp/kdecache-root && rm ksyc*, cd /var/tmp/kdecache-daniel1988 && rm ksyc*...) but, none helped.
Any idea how to solve this? I can't really live w/o Amarok.
Kind Regards,
Daniel |

Ok, what about completely wiping the amarok directory from your user's home directory? You'll have to reconfigure it, but it could work. I've run into a couple amarok issues where something in it's local config gets corrupted and making it rebuild everything cleared it up. You could just rename the directory, so that you still have it if this idea doesn't work. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

The problem is the error messages are useless. The kbuildsyscoca stuff happens all the time, and usually doesn't matter. The ICE error is non-specific. Is there anything useful in ~/.xsession-errors, or just more of the same? I suppose you could try to re-emerge libICE, but I doubt that'll work. Another thing to try is to move ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc and run amarok again. I forgot to mention that before. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

Code: | $ less ~/.xsession-errors
/home/daniel1988/.xsession-errors: No such file or directory |
Code: | $ cd ~/.kde/share/config/ && mv amarokrc amarokrc_bak && amarok | didn't help
libICE re-emerged, still the same error |

Crap. You've probably already tried revdep-rebuild, right? It seems likely there's some bug in that version of kdelibs, and that something in the amarok start-up code is triggering it. But, without a specific error message or backtrace, etc., who knows what or where the problem really is. Hell, it could be some interaction between that version of kdelibs, amarok and some other code that one or both links to. Or maybe they're both fine, but they trigger a bug in something more low-level. Basically, what I'm getting at here, is that I have no idea what the problem is. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

revdep-rebuild -X done, still the same error. Should I try to emerge latest (unstable) version of kdelibs (3.5.7 exactly) and then emerge xine-lib gstreamer amarok one more time?
I can't breathe well without amarok...
Code: | gentoo daniel1988 # cat /etc/portage/package.use
sys-libs/glibc userlocales
sys-devel/libperl ithreads
dev-lang/perl ithreads
dev-lang/php cli pcntl pcre posix session
net-analyzer/tcpdump -samba
www-client/seamonkey moznocompose moznoirc moznomail moznoroaming
media-sound/amarok xmms visualization noamazon
mail-client/evolution -hal
kde-base/kdebase-kioslaves -hal |
This shouldn't make problems, right?
And here is my emerge --info:
Code: | daniel1988@gentoo ~ $ emerge --info

I don't know if this applies to you, but I found that Amarok wouldn't start unless my current compiler was set to the one I originally compiled it with. (e.g. I installed Amarok with gcc-4.1 but I temporarily select gcc-3.4.6 to compile some of my own programs. Amarok won't start unless I use gcc-config to set the compiler back to gcc-4.1.)
That might be because of some voodoo I had to go through to get Amarok working in the first place--for example, I actually call 'amarokapp' to start the thing every time--but if you've upgraded your compiler recently, I'd say it's worth a shot. |

I'm using old gcc-3.4.4-r1. No other gcc was ever used on my box. |

Ok, why are you using such an old version of gcc? _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

My box is runnig on Duron 750MHz It will take almost one week to recompile everything... In two weeks I have the exams for University; after that I think I will recompile everything with gcc-4.x. But until then I'd like to have amarok running |

Try to logout from KDE, go to a console, rm -rf /tmp/*-$USER , rm -rf /var/tmp/*-$USER and login again _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

I've updated amarok to the newest version from portage (amarok-1.4.6_pre20070608) and done this mentioned up - still the same error.
I'm not using KDE as DE, only fluxbox with kde libs needed by programs I use. Maybe there is some missing lib...
One more thing: amarok was build w/o "debug" USE flag. Should I recompile it with debug support? (Maybe I'll get some useful error message then)

Daniel |

Verify if those files are created by amarok/kdelibs anyway. _________________ "I'm just very selective about the reality I choose to accept." -- Calvin |

Amarok works now!
revdep-rebuild done it! Don't know why, but several times revdep-rebuild finished with normal exit (and I tought it recompiled everything it previously showed that it will recompile). Last r-r did everything correctly and Amarok works now.
Thank you everybody a lot!
Best Regards,
Daniel |
