Im not sure whats going on but ttyS0 where my serial modem is located keeps getting created with the wrong permissions, I have tried changing the entire udev folder from another gentoo box where its created properly but no difference, I also have tried to change the relevant section in udev.rules
# tty devices
KERNEL=="ttyS[0-9]*", NAME="%k", SYMLINK="tts/%n", GROUP="tty", MODE="0660"
KERNEL=="ttyUSB[0-9]*", NAME="%k", SYMLINK="tts/USB%n", GROUP="uucp", MODE="0660"
KERNEL=="ippp0", NAME="%k", GROUP="uucp", MODE="0660"
KERNEL=="isdn*" NAME="%k", GROUP="uucp", MODE="0660"
KERNEL=="dcbri*", NAME="%k", GROUP="uucp", MODE="0660"
KERNEL=="ircomm*", NAME="%k", GROUP="uucp", MODE="0660"
but it doesnt seem to make a difference, ttyS1 and so on are created with the correct permissions, just ttyS0 is different, Any Clues Anyone? _________________ Billy DeVincentis

Is this something that can be solved by adding users to the uucp group? _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

Actually, it was being created where everyone other than the owner was forbidden. But Ive just solved the problem, I had a line about faxgetty in my innittab that referred to ttyS0 fromm when I used hylafax, seems like removing it made the permission problem go away. _________________ Billy DeVincentis |
