SynCE Hardlocking

Hi guys
i instaled SynCe & followed the instructions to the letter

now when i try synce-serial-config ttyUSB0
it says it cant find that node
i did some googling and i found that i should try
mknod /dev/ttyUSB0 c 188 0

so i did that then i configured synce and it seemed ok

now i had dccm running as a regular user and so i fired up synce-serial-start
and on my pda (dell axim btw) i got the msg that its connecting to host, and then suddenly my computer hard locks
cant kiill x, cant type move the mouse, only a hard reboot works

any tips on how to figure out whats wrong??
