I'm looking to buy a new P4 to replace the frankly nasty Celeron D I have at the moment. Intel's website says the 3.0GHz P4 631 has Speedstep support, on some models. Anyone got a 631 with speedstepping? Do I need a motherboard with explicit support for it? Mine doesn't mention it, and I don't know how to check for it. It's an Asus PS5800-VM if that helps. |

I was under the impression that non-mobile P4s only supported clock modulation (like speedstep, except it has very little impact on power consumption and heat output). _________________ Game! - Where the stick is mightier than the sword! |

Intel's website specifically says Enhanced SpeedStep. But then it says not available on some models (of the 631). That could refer to P4Ms, but they're in the laptop section of the site. |
