I have installed gentoo a few times. For a while it was printing gentoo in ascii art before the login prompt, now it is not. Anyone know anything about this, how to enable/disable it? |

The /etc/issue file is where the code to display at the login prompt should be. To get the ascii art gentoo, copy the following into your issue files: Code: | [0;35;40m .
[0;35;40m .vir. d$b
[0;35;40m .d$$$$$$b. .cd$$b. .d$$b. d$$$$$$$$$$$b .d$$b. .d$$b.
[0;35;40m $$$$( )$$$b d$$$()$$$. d$$$$$$$b Q$$$$$$$P$$$P.$$$$$$$b. .$$$$$$$b.
[0;35;40m Q$$$$$$$$$$B$$$$$$$$P" d$$$PQ$$$$b. $$$$. .$$$P' `$$$ .$$$P' `$$$
[0;35;40m "$$$$$$$P Q$$$$$$$b d$$$P Q$$$$b $$$$b $$$$b..d$$$ $$$$b..d$$$
[0;35;40m d$$$$$$P" "$$$$$$$$ Q$$$ Q$$$$ $$$$$ `Q$$$$$$$P `Q$$$$$$$P
[0;35;40m $$$$$$$P `""""" "" "" Q$$$P "Q$$$P" "Q$$$P"
[0;35;40m `Q$$P" """
[0;37;40m

There are also some escape sequences to put in information like the name of your machine, time, kernel version, etc.. See the man pages for the particular 'getty' you are running (agetty on my box) for more information. _________________ mlynx

lebouf - Can you clarify what you mean? I'd be happy to help, but I don't quite understand what you mean by your statement. _________________ mlynx

the gentoo logo above the login prompt is AFAIK part of sys-apps/baselayout. Just reemerge it. |

Is there a man page or something that explains what the variables are? I could deduce what they are here but I'd like to know if there are more. For instance, my /etc/issue has this: Quote: | This is \n.\o (\s \m \r) \t |

If I remember correctly...
n = nodename (hostname)
o = domainname
s = system name
m = architecture?
r = kernel release
You can also probably do (tho haven't tried it on gentoo):
d = date
t = time
u = number of users logged in
There's probably more |
