I am trying to update KDE to 3.5.7.
After removing the blocks caused by individual packages I had installed (konqueror and
dependences), I started to install kdebase, but it fails with the following error:

I updated gcc and glibc recently, to 4.1.2 and 2.5 respectively, and I fixed all runtime
errors related, and everything works fine, but that package doesn't want to compile. Every
other kioslave compiles fine from the same sources...I am quite puzzled about this, and
lacking time to find a proper solution myself (summer season is very busy and I work every
day, so I can't sit down with a cup of coffee and read through the gentoo forums until
finding a solution).
I've tried using commands like "ld -lstdc++" "gcc -lstdc++" and "g++ -lstdc++" and those
return no errors.
Since the error is related to a hal-related kioslave, I am thinking I might disable it as
a last resort, but I'd personally love to have it enabled for convenience and time-saving
since I work a lot with USB storage and dvd backups.
Can anyone help me with this?

That opens a new line of research. I hope I don't have to recompile too much stuff (I only have gprs modem, very slow!)
Thanks for your reply! |

Agh...expat wasn't the source of my trouble.
I am out of clues at the time...any other suggestion?
EDIT:
Seems like removing the "hal" USE flag was the key for this to compile. Shame I cannot enable it...I'll wait
until KDE 4, hopefully it will work by then. |
