bootstrapping: gettext fails to build

Building out a system, following the instructions on the LiveCD step by step, I've gotten to the point of bootstrapping. Several things have built happily, but when it gets to gettext-0.12.1, I get the following:

checking how to run the C++ preprocessor: /lib/cpp
configure: error: "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See "config.log" for more details

... there are no more details in config.log...

Any suggestions?

This has been mentioned over and over again. You're using ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~x86 right? That's unstable. You can either a) use stable branch or b) use gettext-0.11.5-r1 instead.

Actually, this just came up day before yesterday. A couple of workarounds are mentioned.

FWIW, I actually did search on 'gettext 0.12l.1' and got no returns, so I thought maybe it was just me.
