|
|
Hi, I want to buy some rewriteable Media:
I have the following drive: (product: _NEC DVD+/-RW ND-6650A)
Write Speed: DVD+R: 16x max., DVD+RW: 8x max., DVD+R DL: 4x max., DVD-R: 16x max., DVD-RW: 6x max., CD-R: 48x max., CD-RW: 24x max.
a) Which format is better for data security? Assume the disc get damaged? I want to use these discs for backups.
b) Which one burns faster? My drive is able to burn DVD+RW 8x and DVD-RW 6x. There are now media available with these speeds!
c) Which one to buy (amazon.de; no shipping costs )?
*) Ricoh DVD+RW 8x Speed, 10 pieces, Pack Slim Jewel Case DVD-Rohlinge: 14,99
I trust Verbatim, Ricoh is for me noname(sorry for saying that, but i don*t know this brand).
There are Verbatim +RW discs with a similar price and specification.
*) Verbatim DVD-RW 4,7GB 6x Speed, 5pieces Pack Jewel Case DVD-Rohlinge : 10,99
*) Verbatim DVD-RW 4x Speed, 10 pieces; Pack Jewel Case Scratch Resistant Surface DVD-Rohlinge : 14,99
d) Whats the difference between the formats DVD+RW and DVD-RW? I have used google a lot for a week now and don*T know the answer jet!

Apparently +RW have more error correction than -RW so should be better for long-term reliability.

If you're after reliability then you're better recording at 1x. Otherwise, obviously, the answer is +RW.

Personally I wouldn't go for either of these - you should be able to get them far cheaper from specialist media suppliers. Otherwise it depends on whether you're going with +RW or -RW.

The main difference is that +RW supports random access (like a hard drive) whereas -RW supports only sequential access (so you have to either append data or wipe and rewrite everything). Beyond that you're getting into technical details - see http://www.cdfreaks.com/reviews/Why-DVDRW-is-superior-to-DVD-RW for some of these. |

I have read this article before. Is there are a 2nd and 3rd source for this topic, so I can trust this information? |
I've not seen another, no - the article's written on technical grounds and not airy-fairy emotional ones though, so I'd be more inclined to believe it. Searching on the author's name + DVD with Google doesn't show any rebuttals of this either.

Should i buy +RW or -RW media? |
From the balance of evidence I'd have to say go with +RW - better error correction, better reliability and higher speed writing. The only down-side is compatability with standalone DVD players, but that's really not an issue for data discs anyway (and is far less of an issue, if at all, nowadays). |

thank you,
I have seen DVD+RW is newer then DVD-RW (Philips). It seems DVD+RW have lossless linking of multisession-DVDs. Also DVD+RW have higher speeds, then DVD-RW currently available.
So I will go for the DVD+RW discs. DVD+RW-DL discs seems to be not technical possible, so I don*t wait for them .
Ill buy them tommorow at amazon.de, no shipping cost at 20, So I buy a book and this package one time.
Verbatim DVD+RW Rohlinge 4.7 GB, 10pieces jewel case : 17,99 |
