Hello,
Trying to decide on a terminal for X. What does everyone suggest? I have used xterm, the term that comes with KDE, and Gnome. Haven't really used Eterm, is it any good?
What is your favorite? |

i really have no problem with konsole. i like the schemas it provides and pretty much always settle for white on black ('cause the contrast makes it easier to read)

Aterm is a very powerful X terminal emulator, with alot of the common terminal type support, it also has the ability to make transparent backgrounds, or tinted backgrounds.
Eterm has a larger memory footprint, although it has a flexible menuing system (oohers!) that can be used to pass typed code to the applications running int the terminal.
Rxvt, a cheap.. *read small and functional* Less memory than aterm, but without the eyecandy.
There are a few alternatives, install what you need, its your choice. |

I use aterm, for all the reasons stated above. I used to use Eterm when I was running E+GNOME but when I started using blackbox I found it quite silly that my terminal was using more memory than my window manager so I switched over to aterm |

Great, thanks for the replies. As I'm running FluxBox I think i'm going to check out Aterm as Dice suggested.
Thanks again for the info! |

I like to use both aterm and Eterm. They both have their advantages:
Eterm has a menu that makes changing the terminal appearance really easy and aterm allows for tinting of transparent windows which is cool looking. I'd try both and see what you prefer (or use both). gl _________________ The answer |

I find that Eterm uses very little memory, and has everything I need plus a few other things....read: My text is gold with a drop shadow running transparently with no frame on the desktop _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

Aterm has all the functionality of xterm, without the memory footprint. If your mainly dealing with newer machines.. aterm is the way to go. Xterm has alot of heritage code, to allow it to deal with older machines (read mainframes) if the need arrises. |

What acidreign was saying is that Aterm uses less memory that Xterm, which in his/her opinion I'm guessing:
Go with Aterm _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |
