|
|
Hello!
Just bought Monkey Island 4 and now I have a problem installing it since I cannot change a CD while setup is still accessing the one in the drive.
I also tried to mount an image of CD1 so I can insert the second CD into the actual drive but then Setup won't recognize the CD (probably because it is looking at the mountpoint I launched it from).
Any ideas.
I guess it is quite simple, but I really don't know. |

Do this:
Code: | cd ~
wine /media/cdrom/setup.exe |
Do not do this...
Code: | cd /media/cdrom
wine setup.exe |
Do not do the above. It locks the mount so that you cannot unmount it, to switch CDs. |

I had to always use wine eject g: (or whatever your cdrom is under wine) to be able to switch discs. |

I never thought about that or why sometimes i could switch disks and sometimes i couldn't. but now by seeing that it makes complete sense...
though most of my problems were alleviated with auto mounting in linux where i went from having to manually mount or demount by command to just hitting the button on the drive, only occasionally did i have that problem but then i hardly ever need to switch disks...
but anyways the difference between do this and not this... makes soooooo much sense. if your shell is in that directory it wont let the disk go... maybe in 6 months to 2 years when this happens to me i might remember this but probably not
anyways to the purpose of this post if you have your shell in the directory where you run the setup.exe file wine eject g: wont eject the disk. It might but i believe wine eject was to solve the problem of multiple CDs before automounting with hal and whatnot was around
either way not using wine eject is in theory the safer way and would cause less problems though i haven't though about wine eject in a long time and not quite sure exactly how it works anymore but either way 1 less command is simpler and less likely to cause problems. just my opinion though _________________ “Music is a moral law. lol, kinda offtopic...
schizoid : as long as ur not in the active dir of the disc, e.g. /mnt/cdrom) use "eject /dev/cdrom" (or cdrom1 2 .....check /dev/cdrom TAB TAB
if that doesn't work, I think U r doing something wrong _________________ To be or not to be, it's not a question. It's a choice |

Thanks, but it doesn't work.
I do not have the directory /media/cdrom and when I try wine /mnt/cdrom/Monkey.exe I have the same problem as before. |

See appdb:

It sounds like the game's installation routine adds a lock. |

Thank you!
Strange... I looked up the game. I only found the screenshot but not the other stuff. Now they're there. Must've been blind.
Well... |
