Hi,

After emerge GCC 3.1.1 I could not use: emerge -e system
It did hang on ncurses. Strangely enough after remergin glibc with new settings every package will emerge if, and only if, I do every package manually. Strange thing....

Any inputs?

Hi,
What version of glibc do you use?
To use GCC 3.1.1 you had to unmask it in /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask, but did you unmask the glibc right onder the GCC? I belive you had to do that to to use GCC 3.1.1.
I did it a week ago and I did not have any problems.
Try to update your portage too, maybe its outdated. If this does not help.
Try to reemerge glibc, binutils, GCC and than gettext.

P.S. I had to rebuild my system from stage 1 this weekend because I tryed some new optimizations with GCC 3.1.1 last week but it didn't work.
Options -fprofile-arcs and -fbranch-probabilities will not work on my system!
Well anyway, goodluck
