|

After:
Code: |
emerge kdebase-startkde
echo "exec startkde" > ~/.xinitrc
startx
|
I get a lengthy error that states that startkde is not found.
If I try to emerge kde, I get an error saying there is a package conflict.
I'm not sure what to do next. |

check your $PATH and make sure that startkde is in said path.
It should be something as simple as that, but you never know....

On our server here it's located here:
Code: |
/usr/kde/3.5/bin/startkde
|
Although this could be different on your system. A simple which startkde
should do the trick....

This is the conflict message that I get:
Code: |
# emerge kdebase-pam kdesu
Calculating dependencies... done!
!!! Error: the =kde-base/kwin-3.5* package conflicts with another package;
!!! the two packages cannot be installed on the same system together.
!!! Please use 'emerge --pretend' to determine blockers.
For more information about Blocked Packages, please refer to the following
section of the Gentoo Linux x86 Handbook (architecture is irrelevant):
|
If I startkde by specifying that location, I get a different error, something like:
Code: |
kpersonalizer: cannot connect to Xserver
|
|

It's been a while since I tinkered with KDE on Gentoo but I did find
this to be very helpful
when I was installing KDE.
I'd go through that, perhaps you've missed a step...
