I think this is the right forum for this post. If not, sorry up front!
I have a 945gm card.
I've been reading lately about the vf86-video-i810 drivers. Apparently the driver has either a lot of bugs, or isn't fully developed.
Quote: | * Driver has neither pBuffer nor FBO support. When using a composite manager all windows are rendered in software and only compositing is hardware accelerated. Astonishingly, this works well enough for most use cases. FBO support is supposed to be added to the driver in the near future.
* XVideo YV12 surfaces are hardware accelerated (when no composite manager is used or for fullscreen unredirected windows), but due to a bug in the driver the video will miss one of the color channels, leading to false greenish/purple colors. This is fixed in newer driver versions. |

So I guess my question is this. Is this the right driver? Or is there a proprietary driver I can run that doesn't have bugs and such and will run xgl? My card runs great in win xp, but...I don't want to run xp any more. The card also supports dx9, opengl, etc.
Or do I need to just keep waiting for the open source driver to become more developed so it will eventually run Xgl? |

Hi:
I have an intel 965GM which uses the same driver and is supposed to have even more problems that 945 and of course i had some problems with it but i was able to solve in a couple of days. My only problem left is with wine and cedega (i haven't worked hard on those two). I have compiz already configured (with xgl), direct render, and all the other features
so i would suggest you to give it a shot, and i think not really sure but the driver for x86 is more stable than amd64, so try first for x86.
cheers

Well I have compiz running, configured, direct rendering, etc. The only problem I really have is Xgl. I downloaded xgl, can start an xgl server, but it's really REALLY choppy in some parts with compiz. |
