The title pretymuch coveres it. I got Gentoo installed at my friends house, got online no problem. i brought the box back to my dorm, and i can't get online at all, but i have an ip adress. i am a n00b, so i might just be missing something stupid. Any help would be apreciated.

can you ping your gateway by ip? if so, can you ping something externally by name? if not, then it's probably /etc/resolv.conf.

yes i can ping the router, but i cannot ping any external sites.

the resolv.conf is
Code:

search mshome.net
nameserver 192.168.0.1

should that be 192.168.1.1?

probably should be "localdomain"... i'd also check with /etc/hosts to make sure your FQDN lines up.

cheers
