I have an AMD64 3800X2. it's a dual core processor with 64 bit extensions. I've used it with great success on AMD64 platform, but don't really care for AMD64 software support. I've even gotten 'shut up's and 'who the fuck cares?'s when reporting bugs regarding this, so I want to go back to 32 bit. Unfortunately, the only way I can get a stable system is via genkernel. I know it's not my system, and I have always been able to use 64 bit gentoo with little to know problems...
but when I set it up under 32 bit gentoo, I get strange errors. Lots of clock skew, lots of timestamps ahead of time clock, etc type issues. I know there's an option I'm missing here. Can anybody explain to me what I'm doing wrong so I can correct the issue and go back to gentoo. Using ubuntu, which is fine, but I miss the control and package availability of gentoo. _________________ CPU: 3800+ X2 (2.5Ghz)

Is your date right? On my old powerbook, I have to reset my time with
from an ntp server each time I re-start. I think this is a clock battery issue in my case, but that is the behavior it causes. |

I maintain that this is a kernel related issue. If I use a kernel based on genkernel which I'd rather not do, it works just fine. If I use any other distro, it works just fine. If I use it on amd64 it works just fine. If I use a custom built 32 bit kernel on gentoo, I get hell. There's an option I'm missing that's causing a boatload of clock skew. _________________ CPU: 3800+ X2 (2.5Ghz)

missing "enhanced real time clock" perhaps?

Well, I always look for this option, and check anything that matches it. I will try it again sooner than later. Probably during the week when I have to work I'll set up a new gentoo install. _________________ CPU: 3800+ X2 (2.5Ghz)
