Now I never remember this happening on my old Ultra/1E but I'm getting random SSH session hangs on my Ultra5!
Strangely enough this only starts happening about 30-45min after a reboot and there seems to be no identifiable pattern which could explain it, I can be in the middle of typing a command and the session just freezes....sometimes I run "dmesg" and it freezes about 40 odd lines into the output.
This is a recent install of 2007.0 and the versions I'm running are:
- OpenSSH_4.5p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8d 28 Sep 2006
- gcc version 4.1.1 (Gentoo 4.1.1-r3)
What could be wrong here?

Did you rule out the network?
Tried sniffing the network, to see which end is ceasing transmission of packets?
Do other protocols have the same problem, say a 30-45 minute telnet or ftp session (keep it up temporarily of course)?
Also what kernel is this?
I think I had possibly something similar occur on my Zaurus on USB-ethernet, but it seemed to be much more predictable to occur. Simply sshing into the Zaurus and doing a ls -l / would freeze the session and I'd have to ssh into the Zaurus again (it didn't crash the machine, just the session.) Since it was using a really old kernel I shrugged it off as a kernel bug since it was still using 2.4.20... If this is what's happening I never root caused it...

I think I've narrowed down the problem to the IMQ Kernel patch or iptables module although I'm not sure why it would be cause this sort of problem because the shaping classes are only applied to the WAN interface and not the MZ.
I'm going to try some different settings in my QoS script and see if it makes a difference.
PS: I'm running Kernel 2.6.22-gentoo-r9
