This is quite the little puzzle - I've read that this laptop as either a crystal sound card, or an ess maestro3.
However, neither one seems to want to load the alsa drivers.
So - I believe there's a way I can get an identifying device number by doing cat /proc/something - but I don't know what.
Or, for that matter, what I'm looking for.
Anyone have experiece with sound on this laptop?
Thanks!

Is what you're looking for in /proc/pci? You can get lots of information by doing: Code: | # emerge pciutils
man lspci |
