|
|
Hi group,
Hope this is the right place for this post?
I have GenToo install and now I wish to install Gnome, but I don't want all the extra junk that is automatically included with the standard install. No Firefox, no Evolution, no Beaver, just Gnome!
I use Seamonkey for a browser and mail. I am happy with it and it is not bloated like the extras that normally come with the standard Gnome install.
I know I can tell emerge to not include dependencies but what is the minimum I need. |

You also can pick a gnome app and get a real basic setup. For example gnome-terminal. I did meld but that pulled in gnome-python-desktop and couple other things with it. |

This looks good. Is it available as a binary package? |

No, Gnome-light is not available as a binary. Most things are not available as bins in Gentoo as it is a source-based distribution. _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

There are a couple of others, like all the other Mozilla titles. For a complete list, go here:
http://gentoo-portage.com/Search?search=-bin
and search for anything that ENDS in -bin (sorry; I couldn't think of a way to get just those to come up). _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

And in addition everything starting with "emul-". Those are 32 bits pre-compiled libs which are dependencies for some bin packages. |

Ah yes, you're correct. I didn't even think about that. _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

I found this link:
http://ftp-osl.osuosl.org/pub/bintoo/2007.1/packages/
But I have not been able to get emerge to look there. I have tried changing make.conf with:
Code: | # These settings were set by the catalyst build script that automatically
# built this stage.
#PORTAGE_BINHOST="http://gentoo.modulix.net/gentoo/grp/i686-pc-linux-gnu/pentium4m/gnome/"
PORTAGE_BINHOST="http://ftp-osl.osuosl.org/pub/bintoo/2007.1/packages http://gentoo.modulix.net/gentoo/grp/i686-pc-linux-gnu/pentium4m/gnome/"
#PKGDIR="/usr/src/linux-2.6.23-gentoo-r3/scripts/package"
USE="X gtk gnome alsa"
# Please consult /etc/make.conf.example for a more detailed example.
CFLAGS="-O2 -mtune=i686 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
# This should not be changed unless you know exactly what you are doing. You
# should probably be using a different stage, instead.
CHOST="i486-pc-linux-gnu" |
But that did not work.
Any suggestions? |
