ive installled win98 on my gentoo laptop using virtualbox.
It works well, except that the display is in a window and ,even when changed to full screen, remains the same size. Within win98 I cant change the dispaly options ( 600X480, 16 colours ) Whenever i change the options within win98 and restart it the machine tells me I cant use the display options.
iv tried accessing the win98 CD and changing the driver to supervga.dll and the monitor driver to the various laptop settings
Ive not got/had windows on this machine so dont know the windows HW drivers to try and install.
FWIW heres the hardware

For resolutions of more than 640x480 you need to install graphics drivers.
Install app-emulation/virtualbox-additions (if you haven't already). This package contains an ISO file that can be mounted as a virtual CDROM drive from the vbox menu. It contains a graphics driver for vbox windows guests.

Yes, you need virtualbox-additions for better graphics. But the problem is that there is no win98 support in the additions AFAIK. So, for win98 I think you'd be better off with qemu. Or kvm, if you have a processor with virtualization support. |

Hey,
might not be what You want but switching resolutions works fine with original qemu. Even with Win98.
Do you really have old software that needs win98? And doesn't work with wine?
Greetings,
