I did read the kernel config, but my kernel was allowing "flat memory" just before the pull, with the same .config, etc. I still can't figure out how to enable flat memory Could somebody help?
Here's my .config, by the way: http://rafb.net/p/90Ux4479.html |

Also, I have updated the special kbuild cflags (note that this version is better than the last with some different flags)... It is better to use this patch with Optimize for Size disabled, as it only is a difference of ~.6mb, and the speed can be considerably different between the two.
http://www.mattparnell.com/zen/mattpatches/special-kbuild-cflags-2.patch
I still can't get the b43/b43-legacy drivers to work...I'm sick of having to deal with ndiswrapper (you can't compile it from the headers)! I have tried methods for my specific card and version of Linux, but I think it may be the version of the drivers in the current zen sources...any insight into this? No errors or anything in my attempts, either.
And I really need the madwifi/Atheros wifi fixed, as many ubuntu users are peeved about it not currently working, and many don't know how to compile such modules. _________________ Make The Fonts Pretty In KDE

@ Wainkoko :
Ah, finally nailed down the problem. It was the uvcvideo driver. As seen in the dmesg, it takes a long time to modprobe and gives the following messages -
Quote: | uvcvideo: Failed to query (135) UVC control 1 (unit 0) : -110 (exp. 26).
uvcvideo: usb_control_msg was delayed
usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo |
In fact, vanilla kernel worked fine as I had no linux-uvc. The strange part and the good part is that emerging linux-uvc from the portage (0.1.0_pre157), it works fine with your kernel. So all is good.
Also, now both b43 and ndiswrapper are working good for my bcm4312 wireless device. And this time, I am living on the edge with 4k stacks and slub allocator .
Thanks a lot lot, for your efforts .
So Yippie, I have a fully working zen kernel (x86) . (That includes vmware and virtualbox ). And its still 2007 and rc6 . _________________ Helium Sources || Gentoo Minimal Livecd |

Getting this error on boot...
NOHZ local_softirq_pending 02
then it freezes. Using the same config from 2.6.23-kamakaze. Looks to be a usb issue, but I can't nail it down. _________________ A computers attention span is only as long as it's electrical cord (Murphy) |

That apparent usb issue might be due to linux-uvc, if you have a webcam that is . _________________ Helium Sources || Gentoo Minimal Livecd |

After a relatively smooth kernel transition, here is some stuff I thought might be worth to put up - a patch (2.6.24-rc6-zen0, from 2.6.23 vanilla), config (pretty generic, pentium4+ / newer athlon, x86) and precompiled sources :

|
|
Hi folks.
I just tried to install the new ATI Catalyst 7.12 driver and the latest git-kernel.
DKMS failed with the message:
.
kernel includes at /lib/modules/2.6.24-rc6-zen0.10k1/build/include not found or incomplete
file: /lib/modules/2.6.24-rc6-zen0.10k1/build/include/linux/version.h
1. Is the ATI driver supported at all?
2. If yes - Does anybody have an idea about my issue above?
There is no version.h in the directory that's for sure.
EDIT.
I removed the fglrx-kernel-source and tried again to install it - See error message below - Does this one ring a bell?:
Error! Build of fglrx.ko failed for: 2.6.24-rc6-zen0.10k1 (i686)
Consult the make.log in the build directory
/var/lib/dkms/fglrx/8.443.1/build/ for more information.
Installing initial module
Error! Could not locate fglrx.ko for module fglrx in the DKMS tree.
You must run a dkms build for kernel 2.6.24-rc6-zen0.10k1 (i686) first.
Done.
That's what I find in above make.log:
DKMS make.log for fglrx-8.443.1 for kernel 2.6.24-rc6-zen0.10k1 (i686)
Mo 31. Dez 16:18:16 CET 2007

On what zen-kernel did you install it?
My Problem: It is the first time since a year that ATI upated the support of my FireGl 5200 with Cataylst 7.12.
I was hoping to get AIGLX to work, to "potenially" enjoy the full potential of the Zen-Kernel.

I had to downgrade to ati 8.433 as well. No support for 1680x1050! And the screen looked terrible.
/me waits.
On another note getting used to Xfce instead of KDE....might stay with XFCE. |

I didn't know the madwifi needs firmware, as I don't have one of those cards and haven't really read up on it (I build for multiple users...)...thanks for that.
As for b43, I actually have tried to get the firmware to work, but I drop it in /lib/firmware, and have even tried manually editing things to make it work, but no dice...does b43/b43legacy need the firmware files to be put somewhere in the kernel tree for compilation in order to make them work?
Also, is there anything we can do to make the nvidia driver able to compile with the kernel headers? Right now, it and ndiswrapper won't even compile kernel modules unless the zen-sources directory is there and configured for the current kernel. _________________ Make The Fonts Pretty In KDE

Well, for b43 and b43legacy, there is no firmware required while compiling kernel. The driver when loading looks for the extracted firmware files in /lib/firmware/b43/ and /lib/firmware/b43legacy/.
As for ndiswrapper and nvidia, the gentoo way is that it looks for kernel sources in /usr/src/linux (or whatever it is linked to), no matter whats the current running kernel. If you try directly, you can either specify the kernel by one of the ./configure or installer options, or changing the output of 'uname -r' (if its possible). _________________ Helium Sources || Gentoo Minimal Livecd |

That's the thing...I use ubuntu...
And thanks for the b43 thing...that, I didn't know (it didn't say in documentation).
Also, am getting an Aperture Size too Small (32 MB) error...what gives? It has to be the kernel, as I haven't changed anything... _________________ Make The Fonts Pretty In KDE

It doesn't matter what the distro is. Please try to search or read docs about debian tools for building custom kernel and modules. Try playing with deb-src.
About the aperture part, can you please give complete messages (relevant part) from dmesg. I am guessing that agpgart module is cribbing about agp aperture size. This can be changed in bios (for most desktops, not sure about notebooks). _________________ Helium Sources || Gentoo Minimal Livecd |
