If you go to the Quakeforge website, you'll see that this is a known problem with the current release (it's in the FAQ or somewhere like that...sorry for not being more specific, v. tired) - and it apparently is something it'll take another release on their part to fix. Til then, nothing doing, I'm afraid. _________________ Sometimes evil can be quite good. |

From: http://www.quakeforge.org/files.php
The packages do not contain the menu file because it would seriously screw up future upgrades. This will be fixed in 0.5.3. If you want menus, you will have to download menu.dat
I use 0.5.4 |

I think it's still busted.. they just haven't fixed it or changed that menu entry yet.
I can only suggest looking for an older version and seeing if getting it from that would help, though I can't imagine why, if they can't just include it with the newer version anyway. _________________ Sometimes evil can be quite good. |

Well, there is nothing you can do in the menu that you can't do in the console.
Want to start a single player game with nq? Just type "map start" in the console.
Want to bind keys? bind <keyname> <action>
bind w +forward
bind s +back
bind a +moveleft
bind d +moveright
bind mouse1 +attack |

I'm not sure you can actually play single-player with Quakeforge. I think it's a continuation of QuakeWorld.
For single-player, I strongly recommend Dark Places - http://www.icculus.org/darkplaces - I think that's the URL... very good engine extension/mod, for added prettiness. _________________ Sometimes evil can be quite good. |

The nq binaries that quakeforge comes with seem to be perfectly capable of playing the single player.
nq-glx nq-sdl nq-sdl32 nq-server nq-svga nq-x11
Here is a working link to dark places if you are still interested in it http://www.icculus.org/twilight/darkplaces/ |
