not that kopete is going to be implemented into KDE as soon as it reaches 1.x ...so if you use KDE, i'd go for kopete ...it's pretty nice :] _________________ tea+free software+law=hook

With Everybuddy you get access to MSN, AIM, ICQ, Yahoo! and IRC just like Trillian _________________ http://blog.chaostrophy.org |

Gaim is my IM client of choice. Tried Everybuddy but found it a bit buggy. |

Bob stamp of approval for Kopete. I'm very fond of having a gtk-less desktop, and Kopete's existence was the last step towards success in that. It's clever and cute and very usable. It's had a history of being a little buggy, but the latest version has been running for 2 or 3 days without a problem (since installing it 3 days ago).
Though a bug in the "Alloy" kde style was causing it to crash at first, so there's your warning. _________________ not sold in stores

I personally like gaim mostly because it handles AIM file transfers well... even when NAT'd. Not sure if kopete has that functionality yet. |

I'm a gaim user who is waiting for kopete to "get there", as it's interface is imho a lot better than gaim's. Hopefully it will by KDE 3.2
I've tried every version of kopete, but it's still unstable for me. But of course:
GAIM - has been around for 5+ years
kopete - has been around for ~1 year.
And kopete has already come far _________________ what up

i have been using kopete for quite a while. It seems to work fine for what I do. Some of the releases can be a bit buggy, but then you can always downgrade :) |

Another solution I just learned about is sim-cvs.. it has support for icq, jabber, and msn. AIM is planned before the next version, and yahoo later on. _________________ what up |

I use gaim, but I plan to set up my own personal (or for friends too I guess) Jabber system and use a Jabber-specific client as gaim doesn't support Jabber's cool features. |

Umm well you can't browse services available on a server.
Or easily use transports.
With my luck, now you can (I haven't tried jabber w/ gaim since 0.59.x) and the gaim developers will now jump down my throat.
And I am also probably using incorrect terminology. |

Wow!
I just tried Kopete, and it rocks!
Kopete is the best.
Gaim can go hide somewhere! _________________ #359074 |

centericq is a pretty good option too if you're not crazy about eye candy (and yes it has support for a bunch of protocols other than icq). _________________ Hello. |
