|
|
I just ran an "emerge -uDNav world" last night, and among other things it updated Samba.
I wake up today to find that I can no longer access some of my shares. I triple checked to ensure my smb.conf and smbusers didn't get wiped out.
My server's name is plato. I cannot access \\plato\matt or \\plato\shared. If I try to, I get the following error in Windows:
\\plato\matt refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive or..... blah blah blah
Here's all the relevant information I can think of:
/etc/samba/smb.conf (link removed)
/etc/samba/smbusers
Code: |
# Unix_name = SMB_name1 SMB_name2 ...
# $Header: /var/cvsroot/gentoo-x86/net-fs/samba/files/config/smbusers,v 1.1 2007/09/07 21:07:40 dev$
root = administrator admin
#nobody = guest pcguest smbguest
|
Code: |
$ ll / | grep files
drwxr-xr-x 4 root staff 4.0K Oct 1 13:30 files/
$ ll /files
total 20K
drwx------ 2 root root 16K Sep 14 00:09 lost+found/
drwxrwsr-x 10 root staff 4.0K Feb 7 01:36 samba/
$ ll /files/samba
total 32K
drwxrwsr-x 28 root staff 4.0K Feb 16 16:42 code/
drwxrwsr-x 6 matt staff 4.0K Oct 29 03:34 drivers/
drwxrwsr-x 4 root staff 4.0K Oct 21 18:07 ebooks/
drwxrwsr-x 6 root staff 4.0K Feb 16 16:23 games/
drwxrwsr-x 109 root staff 4.0K Feb 13 12:18 movies/
drwxrwsr-x 47 root staff 4.0K Jan 24 20:20 music/
drwxrwsr-x 10 root staff 4.0K Feb 13 13:53 programs/
drwxrwsr-x 5 root staff 4.0K Feb 2 17:10 videos/

I have an account on the system named "matt" and it is a member of the "staff" group. My login account on my Windows machine is also named "matt". My linux account passwd, smbpasswd for "matt", and my Windows account password for "matt" are all exactly the same.
This setup worked totally fine yesterday before the update... I did read in one of the Samba changelogs that running "pdbedit --force-initialized-passwords" might help if upgrading from an older version, but I tried and it didn't help.
Also, you'll notice that my public shares are setup so that anyone in the staff group (ME) also has write access to them. I have confirmed that I do in fact still have write access to my public shares from Windows, so it must be authenticating me as "matt" with the correct password.
[EDIT]
The plot thickens... I tried editing my [shared] Samba share to be public and browseable, and restarted Samba, and STILL couldn't access it from my Windows machine using \\plato\shared.
[/EDIT]
[SOLVED]
I feel so ashamed. I just needed to restart Windows.

It's not your fault, it's Bill's!
