|
|
I had installed Gentoo and FreeBSD on the same box, both working perfectly. Now I have added Genntoo/FreeBSD. Basically works too. But I have problem to configure X, especially videocard. Related part of xorg.conf in Gentoo Quote: | Section "Device"
Identifier "** ATI Radeon (generic) [radeon]"
Driver "radeon"
#VideoRam 131072
# Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
EndSection | FreeBSD Quote: | Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "ati"
VendorName "ATI Technologies Inc"
BoardName "RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE]"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection | When I want to use radeon or ati driver in Gentoo/FreeBSD system freeze and I have to reboot computer. Available drivers Quote: | #ls /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers
ati_drv.so atimisc_drv.so r128_drv.so radeon_drv.so vga_drv.so
| Only vga driver works, but resolution is terrible and changing parameters in Screen Section wont help. Any suggestions appreciated. |

Can you ssh into your Gentoo/FreeBSD box when it has frozen with the ati/radeon driver enabled and grab /var/log/Xorg.0.log to post here? _________________ www.gentoo.org.au || #gentoo-au |

Remove xorg.conf and see if X can auto-detect the settings it should. If it works, but not ideally, then post /var/log/Xorg.0.log _________________ www.gentoo.org.au || #gentoo-au |

The same situation - on the screen I could see the gray rectangle with the text Quote: | Input not supported | moving on the screen, system frozen. I had to reboot manually again and of course /var/log/Xorg.0.log is empty. BTW I forgot to mentioned that when I was trying to use ati or radeon driver, the size of /etc/X11/xorg.conf was 0 afer reboot. |

I succeeded to emerge messa-progs-7.0.1 without errors. But xorg does not start anyway with xorg-server-1.4.2-r2. I was trying to upgrade to version xorg-server-1.4.0.90 after that downgrade to version xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r2. Both attempts finished with the same erroor : Quote: | /bin/bash ../libtool --tag=CC --mode=compile i686-gentoo-freebsd6.2-gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I../include -DHAVE_DIX_CONFIG_H -Wall -Wpointer-arith -Ws

Thank you. It really works. Unfortunatelly I won't mark this theread as SOLVED, because my problem with radeon and ati drivers persists as described above. I was hoping that upgrade xorg-server will help. |
