trainquilcool,
I think the reason you're still getting the error despite the ebuild being fixed currently is that paludis enforces the dependencies of the installed version/ebuild. I bet if you in /var/db/pkg/x11-libs/qt-qt3support-4.4.0_pre20080323 you'll find a copy of the old, broken ebuild
edit: Changed focus of entire message since I was off-base |

I just moved to Palaudis today and was wondering how to remove that annoying warning:
Quote: | paludis@1206824818: [WARNING] In program paludis --log-level qa --regenerate-installed-cache:
... When making environment from specification '':
... When loading paludis configuration:
... Cannot access configuration directory '/etc/paludis' using userpriv, so userpriv will be disabled
|
It really annoys me. |

Hi mudcat87.
Don't listen to what Knute told you.
Paludis tells you that it can't read the folder when dropping its root privileges to its "sandboxed" user (by default paludisbuild, but you can change it).
userpriv = user privileges
You should make the folder readable by this user (or group).
You can drop by on #paludis @ freenode if you have trouble. |

The emerge command is portage.
The command for paludis is simply "paludis -<some option or options> <parameters or other options>"
LOL
Did I say simply?? ROFL
paludis has more options than tar! _________________ Knute

1) What do you mean by "doesn't see it"?
[edit]If you mean paludis doesn't show when you do an "emerge -e world" it's probably because if you're using the paludis configuration format it defaults to not writing to a world file unless you specify one in environment.conf. And if you use the portage configuration format it defaults to using the same world file as portage does.
Either way, if paludis and portage share /var/db/pkg so if you did "emerge -p paludis" it should show as installed[/edit]
2) What the hell is paludis14? [edit]Oops; 0.26_alpha14. Though really, it is NOT paludis14.[/edit]

this is what i meant to say;
i installed paludis...alpha14 with the command paludis -i paludis...alpha14.
if i do emerge paludis...alpha14 -p
it is shown as a new package (N) which basically means it's not installed. _________________ this is a strange strange world. |

tranquilcool, (yes, what you have is not normal) it looks like your installed packages information don't go at the correct place
Are you using portage environment ?
If so, I'm not competent to help you atm.
If not, have you well configured your "installed" repository ?
This is a "working" /etc/paludis/repositories/installed.conf :
Code: |
location = /var/db/pkg/
format = vdb
names_cache = /var/cache/paludis/names
write_cache = /var/cache/paludis/metadata
provides_cache = /var/cache/paludis/provides
|
If you use this configuration and install stuff with paludis, they will go to the VDB, used by portage. |

my /etc/paludis/repositories/installed.conf is same as above.
honestly i don't know what's happening portage says something about paludis-scm not
in portage database. guess maybe i should reinstall paludis. _________________ this is a strange strange world. |

Did you install paludis or did you install paludis-scm? Because portage doesn't understand ANY package with "-scm"
In other words:
Which of these commands did you run
Code: | paludis -i paludis-scm |
|

well i did paludis -i paludis but now i have just noted it installs paludis-scm not paludis.
as a matter of fact i know so little about paludis that i don't know the difference between
paludis and palidis-scm.
please can you say a few things about the differences
and why paludis installs paludis-scm if i do paludis -i paludis? _________________ this is a strange strange world. |

AFAIK, it doesn't. I've NEVER seen what you're describing.
btw: scm is the ending added to an ebuild to signify that it's a live build (like using a live repository for svn, cvs, git, etc) |

hey, everybody.
i've got some problems. there seem to be alot of stale cache files as well as unuseable ones. that would not be that bad but now paludis tries to downgrade many packages - and i don't know why. they were just upgraded by paludis.
deluge for example was upgraded a few days back and is listeted in keywords and package_unmask.
how can i fix the cache and prevent paludis from downgrading so many packages?

Your rsync mirror is probably broken/out of date. Try syncing again, and if that doesn't help, try a different mirror. |

I think they just added gnome 2.22 in portage tree so it might be that some packages were still missing when you synced.
resyncing after a while should fix that. |
