Thanks much, Berniyh,
This is working, finally! I'm already at 83% on kdelibs.
So, after kdepimlibs, remove all the old 9999.4 monolith packages, and then start installing split packages- correct?
What's the command for installing all packages in kdebase, if it's not kdebase-scm? _________________ Main box- AsRock x370 Gaming K4

I already ask for it on paludis thread - but I want to have as fast response as possible so sorry for asking here (but I think it is also good place for such question)
What's the equivalent in paludis for

There is no such thing because --skipfirst is an utterly broken concept.
--continue-on-failure if-independent is miles better, but unfortunately its currently borken (there's an open ticket and its a blocker for 0.26 final). _________________ '((eINIT) (soor overlay)) |

Ditto, I hate this thing called Paludis. I was starting to like it a moment ago, but then I tried to kill it with Ctrl + C and it got stuck on "Exiting..." so then I had to send it backwards and then kill it manually. Portage maybe shortsighted, but it works fairly well. I will only use Paludis for KDE. The rest of the stuff will stay in Portage. _________________ BSD > SysV > Linux

Afaik this is a Konsole problem. At least it happens for me with other programs, too.
There has been an attempt to fix it and since then it happens less often, but it still happens.

That's funny, I wasn't aware that this thread was also Paludis's bug tracker. If you have bug reports to make, please make them somewhere where the developers will see. |

It's not a Konsole problem for me. It's happened in xterm as well.

I'm not making bug reports. I'm voicing my opinion on Paludis. That just happened to be an example.
I think it's just a matter of me getting used to it. _________________ BSD > SysV > Linux

Naaa, they aren't out of luck, they'll just avoid svn.
Kde 4.1_alpha1 will be out in about a week , while beta1 in around a month, so it isn't so hard to
wait for tarballs. Other infos at http://techbase.kde.org/index.php?title=Schedules/KDE4/4.1_Release_Schedule _________________ Every day a new distro comes to birth. Every day a distro "eats" another.

I am using paludis three days. And yeah... it's pain in the ass... as I am know 'emerge" since I am using gentoo. I think that's because we don't know paludis as good as portage. Anyway I gave it a chance and I like it more and more every day. I love */*::kde4-experimental and other features. It is faster than portage, it handle dependiencies much better than portage...etc. I think I will stay with paludis. _________________ phoenix

Sure, you can use KDE 4.0.x from the tree and any preview versions.
I just left the part "... if you want to use the KDE4 svn overlay." out. |

I think they just wanted a good and features-full version of kde 4, which kde-4.1 is (and 4.0 was not).
In this case they aren't out of luck, because they would have stopped using svn in a couple months anyway,
unrelated to kde-svn overlay distribution method. _________________ Every day a new distro comes to birth. Every day a distro "eats" another.

Ehrr, may I ask... How? I mean, are you saying this because of suggested deps instead than
use-flags-conditioned deps or what? I noticed Paludis at least finally seems to use sandbox,
(at least if this is true)
which makes the use of an overlay with Paludis a bit less irresponsible and risky, but what's
wrong in the way portage handles dependencies, if anything? _________________ Every day a new distro comes to birth. Every day a distro "eats" another.

I love paludis.First when I started using it it gave me dozens of warnings that really irritated me,but this was because portage doesn't manage thing properly and had left a mess behind. Now I can't even imagine to go back to portage.I'll even delete it if it wasn't for tools like equery that I still use.Is there any alternative to equery for paludis? |

Ehr, paludis has been using the sandbox since the very beginning. I've seen you spread this rumour before, what exactly makes you think paludis doesn't use the sandbox? Got facts to back up your statement? |

You've already been told that Paludis has always supported sandbox. Please stop spreading this ridiculous lie. |

Guys, could we please stop this discussion here? This is not the Paludis thread.
Since the split kdebuilds are quite new, there might be problems and mistakes, if the noise stays as high as it is currently, those might be missed.
It's been decided, to try a new api for ebuilds in the overlay, that happened quite some time ago. And it has been said, that Paludis is needed to use the overlay and the new api.
Since then noone complained about that and now it just is too late.
We've invested quite some time in the overlay to bring the new split kdebuilds and we just won't revert that.
That's a fact and therefore, to use the overlay, you will have to use Paludis, unless Portage and/or Pkgcore support kdebuilds.
End of discussion.
So please move the Paludis discussion away from this thread, create a new Thread "Paludis bitching" or whatever, but leave it out here.
Thanks.

Where did you get that ebuild?
It's not in the official tree. |

First of all for me it is:
Ability to uninstall packages toogether with dependencies (easy way), The thing that people from paludis called "Low dependency bloat" - for me it's visible as speed improvement. (because of No Python??)
Much improved output - which I like more than the one it portage. (explanation of why a package is pulled in). And I don't need anymore two separate tools to handle portage and overlays. I like also GLSA (good to see which package can be potential unsafe for me... )
I am not saying that portage is not good. But I like paludis more and this is my subjective opinion. If you like more portage, go on with portage.
IMHO there is something that I will change in paludis - change filenames from package_mask.conf and package_unmask.conf to mask_package.conf and unmask_package.conf... why?
Now for package_unmask.conf I need to type 'p' [tab] 'u' [tab], after change only 'u' [tab] . _________________ phoenix

Berniyh,
Finally got kde svn installed (r798877) using paludis (manually configured)! Thanks very much for all your help, and to all others, too.
While I was installing stuff from kdebase, as you suggested, konsole failed at 99% test, but everything else I tried installed OK. However, Dolphin installed, but on reboot it's missing??? Kdm worked first time, so it kept those settings.
I'm missing lots of stuff here, but the main hurdle is done- I can fix up stuff as I go through the split versions an install what I need, and as the trunk revisions allow. Panel icons are microscopic with no way to enlarge, stuff like that, but the main hurdle of working with paludis is apparently cleared, and I've got Gentoo kde svn back!
EDIT: Sync'd the overlay, and got konsole back. _________________ Main box- AsRock x370 Gaming K4

The konsole thing has been fixed.
Is dolphin now back again?

Try with a clean plasma config. Unfortunately it's still very broken.
Code: | kquitapp plasma && rm ~/.kdesvn/share/config/plasma-appletsrc && plasma |
