ok so i'm pretty much a linux newb. But i've been searching and reading what i can find, unfortunately i'm unable to fix this atm.

Sorry if i provide to little or not the correct info, but i have a Atheros wireless card.

lspci give me...Atheros COmmunications, AR5005G802......
dmseg gives me ... wifi0: Atheros 5215: mem=0xb0200000, irq = 22

so i know it's being detected but it's not working right.

Network tools in Gnome doesn't see it, sometimes it does but it's a unknown device :(

wifi-radar, if i run it from terminal it says
Code:
ath0 interface doesn't support scanning: Network is down

ath0 interface doesn't support scanning: Network is down

yes it says it twice...

however the first time i try and connect to a network it picks up an IP and i can actually ping and get internet. Once i disconnect it gives me another error, then i'm SOL until i restart

other error: when i Disconnect
Code:
Error for wireless request "Set mode" )8B06) :
SET failed on devic ath0 ; Invalid argument
Error for wireless request "Set mode" )8B06) :
SET failed on devic ath0 ; Invalid argument

then just gives me a time out when i try and connect again. Wifi radar says it's connected but no IP

someone point me in the right direction

oh ya in /etc/conf.d/net i have
Modules=("iwconfig")

that right?

run "lspci", if its still marked as unknown, try running "update-pciids"

cheers
