Posted: Mon May 26, 2008 3:47 am Post subject: [solved]"Appearance Preferences" doesn't find pics |
|
|
Hi,
I've been a Gentoo user for some years, but this is the first weird desktop problem.
I want to change the wallpaper of gnome to a jpeg picture and I chose "System"->"Preferences"->"Appearance" to launch the gnome-appearance-properties. Inside it, I chose background tab and +add and chose a directory full of jpeg pics. However none of the pics are listed. If I changed the tag "Image" to "All", all the file including pics appeared. What the hell is going on? As a matter of course, I use "jpeg" USE flag.
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.
EDIT: As a matter of course, I have done this several times so far, so I have a wallpaper pic in the background now...somehow now it doesn't work.
For reference, my "emerge --info" is
Code: | # emerge --info

Hi maverick6664
I have a feeling you need to add "mime" to /etc/make.conf and then run "emerge -puvND world" to see what gets rebuilt. I suspect several gnome packages will appear.

Hi, cdstealer,
Thanks for your reply.
I added mime in USE, but no packages were added....it doesn't seem to matter... _________________ Tetsuji Rai

Hi,
Try emerging "gnome-base/gnome-mime-data". Does your window manager display thumbnails ok?

gnome-base/gnome-mime-data is already installed.....and I see thumbnails.
Thank you..
EDIT: After re-emerging it, it's working! Thank you very much for your help! _________________ Tetsuji Rai
